Recently had an attack of gout. Bloody painful and I haven't drunk port for years!!!

Seems it is caused by uric acid crystalising in the kidneys and them visiting your joints. Cause is too much protein, it seems.

Any advice?

WW2!!! I'm not that old you cheeky pup!
Big misconception. It is actually pretty common. Most sufferers are men and 75% of first attacks are in the big toe. I think I may have had it before and mistakenl;y put it down to training injury or something. My big toe and foot swelled up, all shiny red, and I couldn't walk on it.

I thought so too until I mentioned it and loads of people I know say they know someone else with it. Possibly I've had an attack before and thought it was some kind of training injury, I'm not sure.

BTW, thank Andy for the tip.
