I'm looking to start a martial art in grimsby and have decided ju jitsu is my best option, looking at this website it suggests there is a club Martial Arts Grimsby
does anyone on here attend? and does anyone have any advice on what to expect for a beginner?

many thanks!

Hey Nick,

I've taught at that club when I've visited back home (if it is the same one, sounds it). Dave's a very sound fella as are the rest of the club.

I'm not even sure if Dave is still running it, not heard from him and Sue (his missus) for a few months. But even so, the rest of the crowd were a good lot when I taught a few times.

If not I'm sure control was gonna be handed over to a guy called Damian (also mentioned on your link), and he certainly sounded like he'd be a great instructor.

The club was never too formal, so ya wouldn't be put off after your first class. There's always gonna be some 'traditions' but they didn't worry too much about it.

Another guy signed the guestbook here from Grimsby a couple of weeks ago, his website is [link=http://www.grimsbyjujitsu.googlepages.com/]http://www.grimsbyjujitsu.googlepages.com/[/link].

Apparently they also teach Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, although I've not heard of any BJJ training in Grimsby or Cleethorpes, so wouldn't get too excited.

Want me to send you Dave's (and maybe Sue's) email address?

You are very welcome to come, see and try out our Ju Jitsu. Dave (2nd Dan) runs the club and I assist (Trev 2nd Dan). We train in traditional Katho Ryu ju jitsu and also add some Gracie grappling Techniques. I visited Carlson Gracies club whilst I was in Rio and picked up some ideas there. cheers Trev

We are yes, but we can't get our brown belts until we pop someone's elbow with an armbar :-)
