I've also seen pictures of British soldiers studying ju-jitsu at around the same time. Wouldn't it have more to do with the cleaning up of the MA scene in Japan and the teaching in schools? If the first westerners were soldiers during WWII then how come I have a judo book written by a westerner from 1930's? I've also seen pictures of British soldiers studying ju-jitsu at around the same time.
