Whats happenned at Castle BBA?...seemed like a really good set up the couple of times I visited. Good base of kids, busy adult classes, good variety of classes to suit all tastes, i.e. a martial arts academy.

I'm guessing from the thread that as some of the instructors dipped more & more into BJJ / MMA, the others maybe didnt like the way things were being directed and a parting of company has followed.

If that's the case then no worries, all perfectly normal and has been the way of MA for the last 100 years. I Ching...the book of change! "Its not the size of the dog in the fight, its the size of the fight in the dog"

castle bba has gone all money orientated all the best instructors have left and they are rushing people through the syllabus to make them instructors.
I ask you how can you resect people that get their black belt in under 8 months just because they traied in a different style before hand, i know i might sound jealous but i would'nt accept a black belt, if i had only been training 8 months. train hard ,train good ,survive

Sounds about right, although I haven't been at Castle since Andy and Matt left, I can imagine how it's gone down hill. Just goes to show where greed get's ya. --------- Robsco! 'I'm sure your style is impressive on other planets, however, your weak link is that this is Earth'

Andy....do you teach all styles of MA at your new set-up or just BJJ as a Gracie-Barra club? If just the BJJ are you still able to make it a full time job / earn the wages or having to supplement.

Always fancied being a full time coach myself but never been able to see how it can pay a living wage. "Its not the size of the dog in the fight, its the size of the fight in the dog"

at the moment I am just teaching BJJ twice a week, but I also do private lessons and a class at Virgin Active to supplement my income.

its easy enough to make a living out of it, so easy in fact people get greedy, forget the bigger picture and then all of a sudden their club collapses.
My advice is if you want to do it, do it, just make sure you teach as many of your classes your self otherwise you will lose your focus and love of what you do and concentrate on money.

email me on arjiujitsu@aol.com and i'll talk you through the basics of setting up a club in a way that you can earn a living from it.
